Yep. Your first lesson uses two-finger versions of Em and G — enough to strum along with hundreds of songs. The coach slows the track down until you can keep up, then speeds it back to normal.
It listens through your device microphone and analyses the pitch about 30 times a second. It names the note, measures how sharp or flat it is and flags any string that isn't ringing. The audio is processed on your device and never uploaded.
